Great Lakes citizens up for the challenge

Remember that EPA Earth Day challenge designed to collect 1 Million pounds of e-waste and 1 Million unwanted pills?  Well, guess what?!?  Citizens around the Great Lakes basin have stepped up to the challenge and exceeded the goals by 500 percent!! Click here to check the progress of this initiative.  At my house we got rid of an old vacuum cleaner that no longer worked and was just taking up space in our closet.  I know the broken vacuum did not belong in my closet but it also didn't belong in a landfill so thanks EPA for giving me a safe, eco-friendly option for that pesky vacuum!

As I skimmed the results page I came across the Earth Day Challenge blog.  I found many of the posts to be interesting and inspirational for someone working toward a clean future for the Great Lakes.  One post I found particularly interesting was the post about recycling in Switzerland.  Did you know that many citizens in Switzerland are fined if they throw a recyclable item in trash??  I also learned a great deal about Great Lakes surfing!  To browse the Earth Day Challenge blog click here.
